There’s something incredibly special about photographing the bond between a mother and daughter, especially when it’s captured in such a soft, elegant way. This beautiful studio session with Ruth and her daughter Ruby was one of those shoots that reminds you just how meaningful portraits can be.
We created the session in my Hamilton studio using layers of draped cream and white fabric as a backdrop, keeping the focus on connection, warmth, and light. Before stepping in front of the camera, Ruth and Ruby spent the morning getting pampered, starting with makeup by Abbie Motion, and then soft curls in the studio to complete their look. It turned into a whole experience rather than just a photoshoot, a chance to slow down, laugh together, and celebrate this season of their relationship.
Throughout the session we captured both individual portraits and “Mum & Me” moments, balancing a touch of timeless studio elegance with natural, genuine emotion. Ruby absolutely shone in front of the camera and you could feel how proud Ruth was watching her daughter step into that confidence.
These images are the kind that belong in frames, gentle, classic, and full of heart. A reminder of how fast time moves, and how important it is to capture these in-between years, before they change again.
