There’s something so special about photographing maternity sessions at the beach – the combination of soft light, open landscapes, and the natural beauty of the ocean always adds a timeless feel. Ruapuke Beach, tucked away near Raglan here in the Waikato, is one of my absolute favourite spots for this kind of shoot. Just check out this gorgeous sunset light with a little bit of stormy cloud vibes too!
Emma absolutely nailed four different looks for her maternity session with some dreamy flowing dresses from the studio wardrobe that caught the sea breeze, to a simple, laid-back outfit. Each change gave us a whole new vibe and showed off her gorgeous bump in such gorgeous ways.
Josh jumped in for part of the shoot too, 10/10 marks for him! Some of my favourite moments were the little in-betweens, the laughs, the way his hand rested on her bump or him brushing her hair back when the wind picked up. Those small things really showed how much love these two already have for their baby already.
Honestly, it was the perfect reminder that maternity photos aren’t just about the bump, they’re about capturing this whole chapter of anticipation, love, and connection.
Emma and Josh, thanks for trusting me with such a special evening. I can already picture you looking back on these photos years down the track, remembering this time of waiting and excitement with the wild west coast as your backdrop!
