If there’s one thing we know about weddings, it’s that the weather might not always follow the plan — but sometimes, that’s exactly what makes the day unforgettable. Daniel and Brandon’s wedding at The Red Barn in Waikato was a perfect example of that.

Despite heavy rain throughout the day, their celebration was filled with warmth, laughter, and love. They had thoughtfully chosen a venue with a stunning indoor ceremony space, so even as the rain poured outside, the atmosphere inside was nothing short of magical. The florals by Amy’s Flowers added soft texture and colour to the room, and guests gathered close to watch these two promise forever to one another.

The Style

Both grooms brought their own style and flair to the day. Brandon made a statement in a white suit crowned with a bold headpiece for the ceremony, while Daniel complemented him perfectly in a beautiful white suit, filled with movement, later changing into a sleek black one for the reception. Together, they looked effortlessly timeless.

The Celebration

After the ceremony, we created portraits and group photos right there in the same ceremony building, taking full advantage of the venue’s versatility and the covered areas. As the day unfolded, everyone moved to the second building for the reception, which was filled with heartfelt speeches, laughter, and a cake by Sweet Little Treat that was almost too beautiful to cut.

And because love doesn’t care about a little rain, Daniel and Brandon embraced the weather completely, finishing the evening with an outdoor first dance in the rain. It was cinematic, emotional, and completely them.

he Portraits

Between showers, we managed to sneak outside for portraits among The Red Barn’s tree-lined driveway and with their wedding party and the cars, the perfect mix of classic elegance and fun personality. Despite the rain (or maybe because of it), their photos have a sense of intimacy and joy that can’t be staged.

It was such a privilege to capture this day alongside Nicole, who joined me for a hybrid photo + film coverage. Together, we created a documentary-style ceremony and speeches film, a highlight reel, and a teaser trailer for the couple to relive the day’s best moments.
